Romello Height Scouting Report
Romello Height fit into Texas Tech’s defensive scheme well enough that it is a practical blue print for his use case in the NFL. He is a high energy, initial step winner, and an angle rusher with surplus karate to win with speed. And Height stacked 8 sacks in his final year before the CFP.
Tape Scouting Report
Height does not show off a well planned repertoire in the phone booth, and when he is beaten he’s non-plussed. But he uses pacing and a variety of chops, spins, swims and dips to keep blockers guessing when he’s got space — and to quite an effect. Height will never be a true edge setter, but has experience playing across the box in a host of double-digit techniques, wherever TTU needed him to add pressure. His leverage play and phone booth fighting are his weakest points, as he can be seen letting himself get swallowed up by defenders reaching and releasing to the second level. Or washed out. There is probably upside to Height as coverage backer, because he is a decent 3D mover, but this wasn’t his calling for the Red Raiders. And what tape is there tends to show an overly aggressive type, who takes himself out of the action.

Romello Height is among the smaller EDGE type prospects in the class. He doesn’t possesses elite speed or strength qualities, and they don’t show on film, and a times his frame looks better built for angle rushing than true bending. But he has a natural sense of timing, a 99th percentile first step, active hands, and an attack dog nose for where the action is flowing.
Draft Stock Report
In another draft class Romello Height’s qualities might push him to the verge of the first, because the NFL loves a standup OLB. But he does have the kind of ‘sub-rusher’ or EDGE2 profile that is really good 2nd round value. Moreover, Romello Height is part of a deep group of OLB and DE types, so he should leave the board with the Green Chip 🟢 players later between picks 45 and 70.
