Omar Cooper Jr. Scouting Report

The major issue with Omar Cooper’s tape is how lean it is on professional style route concepts. Indeed, in Indiana’s offense you can span multiple drives between seeing Cooper targeted or run deep. What he does have is excellent run integrated WR tape, and that is where he shines. As a quick target WR out of the backfield he shows a good understanding of leverage and creases in the defense. And it is immediately evident in how he became such a potent scoring threat. Moreover, it’s hard not to notice the timing and anticipation his role took on in Indiana. He was frequently tasked with motioning to redefine strength and making play action type adjustments on a tight schedule and in tighter windows. He does have some nice tape at Z where he flashes quick feet and the instinct to influence his defender, even if there is not much. There is so little press tape it’s hard to give Cooper more than an incomplete. But what he does have is top 5 WR blocking tape in a draft featuring a handful of standout blockers at the position, as well as clear evidence that he is NFL ready to play through complicated defensive fronts.
