Nadame Tucker Scouting Report
Nadame Tucker is the purest form of later bloomer the draft will show you, he started football late in high school (senior year) and didn’t land a starting role until he was an NCAA senior. Through three seasons he’d tallied zero sacks. In year four, he transferred to WMU from Houston. He led the FBS with 14.5 sacks. So his fate will rest on whether interested parties think he was underutilized in Houston and not merely feasting on MAC level competition.
Tape Scouting Report
Nadame Tucker’s film is very much small school film. His role is monotasked — rush the passer. In fact, if he has snaps off the line we haven’t seen them (note: 561 on the line with 11 off the line). Still, if you can look past how shallow the body of work is, and the level of competition, he has a lot of promise. The limited arsenal he’s working with shows very high level coordination hands to feet. With very little real playing time, he can disengage rapidly, with raw swipe and strike setups. Specifically Tucker literally paces some of the tackles he plays against, flashing stopwatch sync with the snap. He’s got terrific flexion through his lower half, and the balance to work around blockers. He’s undersized a bit, and plays with negative leverage against the rush. But he’s also highly inexperienced, and over pursuit, both behind the line of scrimmage as well as at the gaps is common to his reps.
Athletic Scouting Report
Nadame Tucker’s limited pass rush kit is helped by a rare first step. His transitional velocity and momentum are terrific and show time and again. See Tucker’s tape against 4 -star LT Stanton Ramil, a prospect who rode to the NCAA on athletics, and it’s a naked mismatch. Tucker also flashes more power than you’d assume, frequently striking into the pads and bullying tackles at their center. But his shows of power probably attest to his speed and natural timing more than power per se. If for no other reason than he shows small on tape, especially against the run, and lacks a discernable NFL level anchor. Tucker certainly has the raw traits to play an odd-front role, but with less reps in the grass than some 280 lb edge types, it’s speculation only.
Draft Stock Report
Nadame Tucker is a project a lot of NFL GMs will gladly take on, for the right price. What he lacks in finesse and experience, and even size, is offset by some demonstrably natural pass rusher traits — and one heck of a final season at Western Michigan. Tucker’s biggest hurdle will be picking up everything he’ll need to know to transition to an odd-front off the ball role, even as an edge. The cost of the remaining labor of developing him as well as the uncertainty of that outcome prices out a verifiably talented pass rusher as a Pink Chip prospect– but one you’d consider a priority if you need a developmental edge.
