Max Klare Scouting Report

Max Klare absolutely dominated with Purdue, and scouts were waiting to see what he looked like in more pro-style and run-integrated offense with the Buckeyes. The results were somewhat disappointing, as Klare’s production plummeted and through half the season he looked out of place playing so close to the line. So, much of Klare’s destiny resides in the version of him we saw with the Boilermakers.

Tape Scouting Report

He’s offered little as a blocker, and was tasked with less at times. However, he he does have a the type of flexibility and smoothness into and out of breaks that good F-hybrid WRs show. Klare is a high point specialist, and really can look graceful fully extending or making catches on the fly. Since Purdue we’ve seen a seamless transition, especially on crossers. But he can throttle into a dig with ease as well. And Klare has a unique gift for finding creases in the defense and taking scads of yardage through them. His blocking improved in 2025, but Klare has some gnarly tape. He’s often times too high. Alarmingly, he has poorly timed hand usage, and his grip or arms rarely stand up to displacement by opposing defenders.

Athletic Scouting Report

Klare has real long strider speed. He simply eats up yards of turf on vertical type concepts, and if given a glimmer of daylight he is a threat to run away. He’s got some really acrobatic tape out there, and demonstrates natural rhythm and explosion to get the ball wherever it is thrown. However, he lacks the kind of sand in his frame that would ever project him as a MOF or in-line type TE. So Klare is very easily displaced and jarred at the line, and does not play up to his athleticism in contested situations.

Draft Stock Report

Max Klare fits a tight end mold that has had difficulty transitioning to the NFL. He really projects as a WR type TE. But because his blocking and route potential is WR grade as well, many NFL teams will find they are better off playing a WR instead of him in the slot. That said, he is still dangerous with the ball, and at his length a great athlete. And Max Klare has some heavy production to lean on in his interviews. For a B1G tight end like Klare, nothing less than a Green Chip rank seems adequate. He’s a mix of day 2 traits that should carry him off the board in the early third round.
