Gabe Jacas Scouting Report
Gabe Jacas has been one of the most productive prospects in the class for two years now, stacking sacks (19 in 2 years) and forced fumbles (6 in the same). It’s hard not to like his blend of high-floor with a high ceiling.
Tape Scouting Report
Gabe Jacas is known for his motor and his powerful drive off the edge for the Illini. Jacas has managed to parlay a wrestling background into his plan of attack-excels at quick hit attacks (arm bars, strikes, and chops). His speed arsenal is mostly limited to a shoulder dip. But Jacas is plenty effective with his power moves, and while he could stand to diversify he wins with the basics. He’s played pure edge almost exclusively at Illinois, but his native athleticism hints that he could play off the ball in time. But he’d need to refine his tackling technique and attention to detail because he’s sometimes out of place.
Athletic Scouting Report
Jacas is a long, athletic mauler with the kind of build to keep blocker off his core, but also speed past them. He is bendable enough, but has some tightness to his midsection, which is about the only thing less than purpose built. It is easy to admire his combination of upper body strength and first step quickness – in fact they are his selling points. Edit: Jacas’ athletic profile is in flux, because the player we saw at Illinois played closer to 270 than the 260 he weighed through the draft process.
Draft Stock Report
Jacas is bringing his non-stop energy to the NFL. His production out of Illinois against a competitive schedule, is a point for him. Against, lack of versatility and refinement. He’s a Green Chip player for that reason. So late second round is his likely destination, even if in another class he might go much higher on demand.
