Dillon Thieneman Scouting Report

Dillon Theineman is a hard luck FS prospect who would probably have garnered more attention in the draft cycle in any season that doesn’t have a safety like Caleb Downs roaming around. Still he has all the necessary experience and tools to be a top safety. He was the leader and premiere piece in a poor Purdue defense for two seasons, and he didn’t miss a beat transferring to Oregon for his junior campaign.

Tape Scouting Report

Dillon’s got the focus of a greyhound on the QB and passing concepts giving him a visual timing edge to interrupt action as it occurs. He takes lean, efficient backpedal steps and stays underneath himself when he is expanding to depth ahead of a play. Thieneman also shows an acute sense of space and leverage as he takes position within that action. He’s a form tackler with real juice for his size and good breakdown tech in the field. He is definitely not a nickel corner, but can play select reps with aplomb from the spot so long as he’s not against very savvy or tier 1 quick WR, where you see the limits of his man coverage. Otherwise, the tape shows a true 3-level defender capable of reducing from FS to wherever needed. Dillon’s ball skills are very good, though not elite at this point, and he hasn’t produced mass turnovers. But he’s a terrific zone safety nonetheless. He is mightily aggressive, impressively so even, interdicting plays as they happen. But he tends to over pursue a touch when jumping run fits and some routes. This is a tiny complaint when he is otherwise a complete technical package.

Athletic Scouting Report

As an athlete there isn’t much that can’t be said about the Oregon Safety. Thienman’s tape shows s-tier linear speed, fast first step, balanced movements, and much better hip fluidity that his impressive physique suggests. The Oregon safety has ample sand to play near the box, but is a little light for the task.

Draft Stock Report

Though, he doesn’t deconstruct blockers like a true SS/Box player should at the NFL level, even if the raw ingredients are there. In any season Dillon Thienman is at least a Red Chip (top 45) player and is a clean round 1 player in almost all of them. He should land between 15 and 30 in 2026, and should be a year one starter with pro-bowl upside.
