Chris Johnson Scouting Report

Chris Johnson is kind of a dark horse in a deep and strong CB class. On film, he can hang with Mansoor Delane, in the technicians club and at the top of the class. Especially adept at off-man and zone, he’s a oiled machine in backpedals, transitions to the field or boundary, and reductions. Johnson excels at pattern recognition and therefore anticipation. Moreover, his tape evidences an ability to manipulate passers and receivers with his posture. Johnson’s tackling is textbook; better than what you often see at the NCAA perimeter. The tape shows a very good athlete, even at the lower circuit level for SDSU. He breaks on the ball and recovers extremely fast. Johnson is a real G5 find, and if he measures and runs true, his body of work should be more than enough for him to get real 1st round consideration, even in a competitive class.
