Cashius Howell Scouting Report
Cashius Howell has been a dervish for the Aggies the last three seasons. Tallying over 30 sacks takes the sting out of being a 5th year defender. And so does his tape, which is flat out enjoyable to watch.
Technically, he is as well developed as you’d prefer to see from an NCAA vet. His rush pacing is average, but he is highly creative using his natural ability cut across box space. How doesn’t play long, and comes off as a player who avoids entanglement more than one who can win through it. But Howell also plays to set up his defenders snap to snap, and has one of the better senses for where a play is going to be in a good EDGE class. The Aggie EDGE is also poor through his run fits. You’d expect to see him get engulfed on squeezed out of a play at his size, but he also has tape where he is visibly looking for a kill shot and won’t break down in space to wrap runners. But Howell also shows flashes of very good second level IQ. Spotting screens and developing passes ahead of time. And these are traits NFL GM’s will want to develop.Cashius is a true soft-skill type of athlete. He is fairly small for he position. Exceptionally lacking in length. But if you are a buyer of plus lateral movers and flexible space space players with excellent reflex tape: he’s your guy. Howell also shows off a uniquely low kind of build that might have upside as a torquey gap fitter if brought along.
Howell has a wild profile. Highs are his production, motor, first step explosion and movement ability. Lows include his age, length, size, and some unevenness to his pressure creation (dipped to just 4 sacks in 2024). But he has terrorized SEC backfields for three seasons now and has the numbers to back it up. Which is a real Red Chip 🔴 resume and should take him off the board between picks 25 and 40.Draft Stock Report
