Carnell Tate plays WR the way football coaches want it played. He’s a determinate route runner, a matchup threat, and an asset to the run game. It’s hard to stand out in a vaunted Ohio State WR room, but like Emeka Egbuka, Tate thrived in his niche.
Tape Scouting Report
Carnell Tate put together his finest season in 2025. He’s demonstrated the ability to stretch field from the seams, as well as run a host of routes with remarkable precision and timing – incorporation shaves, feints and head fakes through the stem . Tate does a masterful job of setting up his leverage, and playing with the sense of expectation and timing to take advantage of that leverage. His press release tape is lean and his boundary experience not as high as you would like to see. But Tate is a form blocker by WR standards, as well as a vicious one. And that easily earns him a place at Z.
Athletic Scouting Report
If he isn’t physically dominant, he is at least a very good athlete by explosive standards. His ropey build hides elite core strength, quick reflexes, and a springy frame equally capable of highlight catches or a possession grind. He’s a sharp mover into and out of breaks, and a practiced one at that. For a longer WR, he has elite sink. Inasmuch as Tate is a longer player, and his stride is difficult to match, so there is tape of him pulling away. But even if his timed long speed is less than elite, his over length and athletic profile make him formidable.
Draft Stock Report
Carnell Tate is a case study of how the holistic player can surpass the sum of his parts. His total profile doesn’t scream elite, but suggests the Amon-Ra St. Brown archetype of WR who can stack yards in a modern NFL offense. At Cutcall that merits real Blue Chip consideration in a WR class where your top option is injury prone and your alternate takes most of his targets behind the line of scrimmage. And arriving with the Ohio State seal of authenticity practically guarantees he leaves the board between 10 and 20 in April.
