Caleb Lomu Scouting Report

Caleb Lomu posted a flawless 2025 and enters the draft as the OT with the most upside of the tackle group. At just 20 years of age he has the most room to grow. But he also brings elite athleticism to the position. It’s a terrific mix.

Tape Scouting Report

Caleb Lomu’s pass protection sets feature natural bend, excellent balance, and advanced hand usage. When faced with speed rushers his reflexes and technique shine, as he shows the aptitude to mirror from his feet through his frame and maintain pad level. His strikes isn’t earth shaking, but Lomu is a naturally timed striker. Lomu’s best protection sets at this point are vertical, where he wins most encounters. His least impressive sets are in man and combination pass protections where he needs to protect a gap or gauge fronts across from him. As a run blocker he plays with good expertise across protections. Indeed the Utes like to put Lomu in motion and on difficult reach type assignments, where he flourishes. He is natural in space, though sometimes his tape shows hesitation sorting through shifting box assignments. And rarely Lomu can be found over his cleats in power type block pro. But as complete grade, he is far, far ahead of his age.

Athletic Scouting Report

Lomu’s athleticism has to read in two parts. On the one hand his tape shows a fluid, fast, and agile player not yet in his prime. Moreover, an OL player with the overall length and reaction to play anywhere on the line. He is rangy, pliable and capable, and above all a naturally coordinated lineman through his arms and legs. However, his anchor is not what it could be – and it’s both visible and demonstrable on tape. Seeing Lomu displaced, sometimes even by stand up rushers, is not uncommon. And he has a lot of tape where he stalemates at the point of attack, especially in gap type runs. Scouts probably want to see his punch, which is well timed, get heavier too, because he doesn’t shock defenders as well as you would like to see.

Draft Stock Report

Caleb Lomu’s age is a a double edged sword. Even if he is advanced for such a young player, he is an unfinished product. Still, Lomu is possibly the best deal in the draft along the offensive line. His frame is excellent. He displays the kind of refined athletic soft skills (balance, coordination, pliability) an OC wants in a tackle. And he already has the lower half efficiency of a much older player. Lomu is a Red Chip OT. Great on either side of the line, and gone between 20 and no later than 32.
