Patriots Offseason Summary

Following the first wave of 2026 free agency, the New England Patriots' primary draft needs are Edge Rusher, Wide Receiver, and Right Tackle. After an impressive run to Super Bowl LX, where they narrowly fell short, Executive VP of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf and head coach Mike Vrabel have shifted focus to sustaining their defensive core and upgrading the weaponry around Drake Maye.

The Patriots entered this offseason as a championship contender. While they successfully addressed the interior line by signing Alijah Vera-Tucker (3 years, $42M) and giving Drake Maye a reliable target in Romeo Doubs (4 years, $70M), the roster still has notable gaps. The 2025 #4 overall pick, Will Campbell, remains the franchise left tackle despite some playoff struggles following a knee injury that cost the rookie playing time. But the defense needs a premier pass rusher following the departure of K'Lavon Chaisson and Anfernee Jennings. And even with Stefon Diggs the general sense was that Drake Maye needed a true dynamic WR1 or TE1 type target who can win contested targets or stress defenses vertically.

Denzel Boston | WR

Denzel Boston falling to thirty-one would be a gift to the New England Patriots. Their WR room had a turbulent off-season. The top Patriot pass catcher, Stefon Diggs, was released. And while they added Romeo Doubs in free agency, and he is a capable WR2, Drake Maye enter his third season never having thrown to a true WR1 type target. And the catch radius, range, and physicality that Boston brings would get the Patriots a more athletic and gifted version of one of his favorite targets in 2025 Mack Hollins.

Romello Height | EDGE

The New England Patriots defense was outstanding in 2025, and down the stretch it really fueled their run the Superbowl. But that defense was more opportunistic than dominant on the edge. Romello Height brings a first step and stand-up rusher that the Patriots have not seen in a while. And even if newly acquired Dre'Mont Jones gets the lion's share of snaps, Height can blend in through his development as an instant sub-rushing threat on 3rd downs and against offenses that play light.

Markel Bell | OT

The New England Patriots roll into 2026 with a 35 year old RT in Morgan Moses. And their tackle depth took a real hit with Vederian Lowe leaving in free agency. Their long term tackle situation is a big problem requiring a big solution. Answer? They draft Miami's behemoth, Markel Bell. He's a young tackle with huge upside, massive wingspan, and underrated athleticism. Plus Bell sports a track record to boot, yielding zero sacks in almost 800 pass blocking snaps his final year.
